Missing Mum Wendy Whitehead (50) has not been seen since 26th December 2001, when she left the home she shared with her boyfriend Steve Oldham in Hilversum, Holland and vanished into thin air. She spoke to her son Jason the day she disappeared and said “You know I love you, don’t you?” He thought nothing of it at the time.
However, that was the last time he ever spoke to his mum. Wendy’s father John, (75) reported his daughter missing to British police in Hull in April 2001, after spending weeks continuously phoning her former boyfriend to tell him to inform Dutch police. Interpol then contacted police in Holland who launched a missing persons inquiry. Dutch police investigated her disappearance and have made numerous visits to the UK, all to no avail.
Wendy had moved to Holland from Blackpool in 2000. Her relationship with Steve was volatile and she hadn’t settled well in Holland, not liking the job or the language. Steve met a Dutch girl very soon after Wendy’s disappearance. Later he returned to the UK and committed suicide in a car in Essex, leaving a note saying he was in debt and that his Dutch girlfriend had left him. The note made no mention of Wendy Whitehead.
Steve always maintained his innocence and no charges were brought against him, although he was questioned by police. Wendy vanished leaving most of her possessions behind. Her passport had gone, but her bank accounts remained untouched.
Wendy has three grown up children who live in Leeds; Jason (39), Gemma (26) and Donna (28). Wendy’s father, John, and Jason are convinced Wendy is still alive, her daughters fear she is dead.
Son Jason (39) has vowed not to rest until he knows whether she is dead or alive. He has even appeared on Dutch missing person’s TV show “Vermist” to appeal for information about his mum’s disappearance. Jason is determined to keep his mum’s case in the public domain and will not stop until he has proof of his mum’s whereabouts.
