As Marge frosts cupcakes for Halloween, she’s distracted by some Fox promotional “bugs” on the bottom-right corner of the screen. She tries to eradicate the creatures, but fails. Homer, Bart, and Lisa come to her aid; and with the help of some household appliances the “bugs” are destroyed. Then hundreds more pour in, and the family is enveloped by the “bugs.”
“Mr. and Mrs. Simpson” — As Homer rushes off to work, he tells Marge he won’t be home until late. Marge won’t be home at the usual hour either, as she is attending traffic school. It turns out Homer is living a double life. He’s actually working as a secret agent, and is instructed to eliminate Kent Brockman. Homer makes his way to a construction site, where he pulls out a pistol and takes aim at the newsman. A mysterious blonde blocks Homer’s shot. The blonde pours some poison into Brockman’s drink. Homer nonetheless aims and fires, accidentally shattering the glass Brockman is holding. The blonde tosses a throwing star at Homer, prompting Homer to fire back. The blonde escapes, and we soon realize she is actually Marge in disguise. When Homer returns home, he grows suspicious. As in the film Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Homer and Marge realize they’re both killers for hire, and begin shooting at each other. The battle continues until Chief Wiggum shows up at the front door. Marge grabs a crossbow, and shoots Wiggum through the heart. The shooting causes Homer and Marge to get aroused. Bart and Lisa discover the dead Wiggum, and can’t believe their eyes. Wiggum regains consciousness long enough to point out that he’s not quite dead yet. Marge responds by shooting him in the head.
“E.T. Go Home” — Bart hears a noise coming from the backyard shed, and decides to investigate. It turns out to be Kodos the space alien. Kodos claims that he and his friends have come to Earth to determine the planet’s vulnerabilities, and “shore them up with more peace.” Bart lets Kodos into the house. Lisa spots the alien, and falls for his story about hiding from the government to keep from being dissected. Kodos gives the children a long list of items he’ll need to build a communications device that will allow him to phone home. Kodos asks Lisa to find out the locations of all the defensive missile systems in the United States. Later, when Homer enters the bathroom, he discovers Kodos in the shower. Government agents show up at the front door; but before they can confine Kodos, Bart and the alien escape on a bicycle. Instead of flying over the agents — a la E.T. — Kodos pulls out a ray gun, and blasts them. Later Bart discovers that Kodos’ communications device is actually a space portal that will allow his kind to invade the Earth. The invasion begins, and space aliens bite off the heads of people throughout Springfield. Bart climbs into a helicopter, and guns down the extraterrestrials.
“Heck House” — Bart, Lisa, and their friends spend Halloween night pulling pranks on unsuspecting people throughout town. When the kids go too far, Flanders announces that he’s going to scare them straight. He transforms the church into “Heck House,” and fills it with lame Halloween frights. When the kids laugh them off, Flanders asks God for help. Flanders is suddenly filled with supernatural power. He uses it to subject the children to the seven deadly sins. By the time Flanders finishes, the kids promise they’ll behave themselves. A short time later Flanders thanks God for helping him, but it wasn’t God after all. It was the Devil who helped out Flanders, and now Flanders’ soul will burn in Hell.
