“Shoved By An Angel”—While having breakfast with his family, Homer happens upon his horoscope, which predicts his impending death. It isn’t long before Homer has several close calls involving lightning, impalment and snakebite. But when he takes a bite of Marge’s broccoli, he falls over dead. Homer finds himself before St. Peter and the gates of heaven. St. Peter gives him a chance to enter, but only if he performs one good deed in the next 24 hours. In the form of a ghost, Homer returns to Earth. His attempt at helping Mrs. Skinner across a busy street fails when he accidentally drops her. Later, Homer attempts to haunt Nelson after catching the boy giving Bart noogies. But Nelson is such an accomplished bully, he grabs Homer in a headlock. Homer eventually realizes he has only one minute left to perform his good deed. He then snatches a baby from its carriage moments before it careens into traffic. Homer then returns to heaven, only to discover that St. Peter was distracted while he was saving the baby. Homer then finds himself in the bowels of hell, where Satan sentences him to an eternity of horrible pain. With that, Satan grabs him in a headlock and gives him noogies, just as Nelson had earlier.
“Night of the Dolphin”—The Simpsons take in a dolphin show at Springfield Marine Park. Lisa disapproves of what she labels a “dolphin internment camp.” When she notices one of the creatures, Snorky, staring mournfully at a group of its kind frolicking in the ocean, she decides to set it free. Snorky tells other dolphins about its horrible experience at the marine park. The dolphins emerge from the water and attack people throughout town. Word of the invasion is broadcast on television, and as the Simpsons watch, the creatures attack newscaster Kent Brockman. Horrified, they try to contact Grampa, who at that moment is being swallowed by a dolphin. Residents gather at town hall, where Mayor Quimby attempts to restore order. Suddenly, Snorky and his followers burst into the room. Snorky addresses the crowd and explains how, millions of years earlier, man’s ancestors drove his kind into the sea. Now, dolphins intend to impose the same fate on humans. A battle erupts, but the people of Springfield prove no match for their aquatic foes…and end up treading water in the middle of the ocean.
“Scary Tales Can Come True”—The image of a storybook woodcut of a giant pumpkin house dissolves into a “real” pumpkin house where Lisa sits in a chair, engrossed in a book of Grimms’ Fairy Tales. Homer enters and sadly announces that he lost his job as an oaf. Without a salary to feed his family, Homer abandons Lisa and Bart in a forbidding forest. The children happen upon a cottage, where three bowls of porridge rest on a table. Lisa suddenly recognizes the setting from her storybook, grabs Bart and slips out the door. Moments later, a family of bears enter and attack Goldilocks. Soon after, Lisa realizes that the book can keep them one step ahead of whatever characters they encounter. The children make off with Rumpelstiltskin’s gold and collect loot from the giant in Jack and the Beanstalk. Later, the pair happen upon a witch who lives in a candy house. Unfortunately, the witch’s story was on a page that Homer had previously ripped out of Lisa’s book. Bart and Lisa soon find themselves in shackles. As the witch attempts to push Lisa into her flaming oven, Homer’s appears, having eaten his way through a gingerbread wall. The witch then casts spells on Homer, giving him chicken legs, etc. Suddenly, the door bell chimes. Homer seizes the moment and tosses the witch into the oven. The front door opens, revealing the witch’s boyfriend, whom the witch had mentioned earlier (a claim met with disbelief). Later, Homer, who still has the legs of a chicken, lays an egg to feed his family.
