Apu asks his wife, Manjula, to do something about their eight children, who are swarming customers at the Kwik-E-Mart. After Manjula and the children leave the store, Homer and Bart enter, dressed for an upcoming Civil War reenactment. Apu remarks that the Squishee Lady called him “handsome,” but Homer suggests that he not get too excited, as the Squishee Lady called him “slim.” Later, the Civil War reenactment gets underway, but soon devolves into calamity, rife with historical inaccuracies, including some World War II era tanks and a giant mechanical spider. After the reenactment, Homer realizes he used Maggie as a deposit on the beer keg he rented from the Kwik-E-Mart. When Homer returns to the store, he discovers Apu and the Squishee Lady having a fling in the backroom. Homer is shocked. When he returns home, he has nightmares about what he saw.
The next morning, Marge questions Homer about what’s troubling him…and deduces that Apu is having an affair. Later that day, Homer and Marge play doubles badminton against Apu and Manjula—which leads to a series of double-entendres. Homer takes Apu out for a drink at Moe’s bar, where he eventually tells Apu about what he witnessed. Apu admits he had an affair and is very ashamed about what happened. Marge urges Apu to tell the Squishee Lady that their affair has ended. But when Apu attempts to do so, the Squishee Lady flashes her top at him. Apu’s willpower fades, and when he returns home, Manjula smells perfume on him.
The next day, Manjula confronts Apu with security camera footage from the Kwik-E-Mart, which shows Apu and the Squishee Lady in the throes of passion. Manjula then kicks Apu out of the house. Marge and Homer decide to invite Apu and Manjula to dinner without telling either of them that the other is coming. But the move only backfires, and Manjula hands Apu divorce papers. Manjula tells Marge that although she misses Apu, she also wants him to suffer. Marge suggests she draw up a list of ways Apu can atone for what he did. After Apu performs all of the tasks—which includes performing My Fair Lady with an all-octuplet cast and breaking off all contact with the Squishee Lady—Manjula takes him back. But she warns that it will be some time before things return to normal.
