Actor Leonard Nimoy hosts the following tale of extraterrestrial encounters. As the story unfolds, Homer enjoys his Friday night relaxing at Moe’s tavern. Realizing the lateness of the hour, and convinced he’s had too much to drink, Homer opts to walk home. His journey through the deserted streets of Springfield leads him to an open field. There he encounters an eerie creature with a large bulbous head, enormous dark eyes, and an oddly contorted body. Terrified, Homer runs home.
Disheveled and shaken, Homer awakens Marge and recounts his story. But she suspects the spaceman is a product of her husband’s heavy drinking. The next day, Homer’s story is dismissed by his children, his co-workers, and even Chief Wiggum. Despite this, a local newspaper prints a story about the UFO encounter. A copy of the article ends up in the Washington bureau of the FBI, where it is read by X-Files Agents Mulder and Scully. Mulder convinces his skeptical partner that the story merits further investigation. They travel to Springfield and interview Homer about his experience. Later, they visit the site of the alleged close encounter. As Homer describes how a horrible creature emerged from the woods that night, a bedraggled Grampa stumbles out the forest. Convinced it’s the worst assignment they have ever had, the agents leave. Homer’s spirits rise when Bart admits he believes his story. On Friday night, Homer and Bart set up camp in the field. Their patience pays off when the alien makes another appearance—which Bart captures on videotape.
A few seconds of Bart’s blurry videotape footage is broadcast on television. On the following Friday, hundreds of Springfield residents gather at the field in hopes of glimpsing the alien. When the creature finally appears, Lisa shines her flashlight in its direction, revealing none other than Mr. Burns. Smithers explains how his boss undergoes medical treatments every Friday evening after work—therapy that alters the old man’s appearance.
