At the mayor’s mansion Quimby announces that the annual Easter egg hunt has begun. Mrs. Quimby speaks before the crowd, prompting Marge to quip that she handles her husband’s infidelity quite well. As the hunt gets underway, Mrs. Quimby invites all interested mothers to join her on a tour of the mansion. Homer notices other babies grabbing up eggs before Maggie can reach them. Homer picks Maggie up and begins plowing through the crowd of toddlers, grabbing all the eggs he can put his hands on. A man in a bunny costume blows a whistle, and tells Homer to stop. Homer puts Maggie down, but moments later the Easter Bunny tackles him. A struggle ensues. Back inside the mansion Marge enjoys her tour with the other ladies. Mrs. Quimby invites the women to join her for tea in the parlor. Suddenly Homer crashes through a window holding a torn bunny ear in his hand. An embarrassed Marge reluctantly introduces Homer to the group. As Homer licks dirt off his fingers, Marge begs him to stop. Taken aback by Homer’s antics, Mrs. Quimby announces there will be no tea. That night Homer tries interesting Marge in making love. Marge says she she’ll have no part of it. She tells Homer that whenever she’s in the process of making new friends, he somehow manages to spoil everything. Homer decides he’ll have to find Marge a friend. At school Lisa notices a flier on a bulletin board. The flier tells students how they can spend a summer in Rome. Lisa is overjoyed. Lisa takes the brochure to Skinner, who asks her several questions; including whether or not she speaks Italian. Lisa lies and claims she can speak the language. Later, at the park, Lisa tries learning Italian by listening to an instructional cassette tape, but it turns out to be “Italian for Italian-Americans.” Homer approaches strangers in a grocery store in hopes of finding Marge a new friend. When that fails Homer decides to take a new tack. When Homer returns home he introduces Marge to her new friend… who turns out to be a prostitute. Later, as Marge walks the gray streets of Springfield, she notices a bright pink hat being blown around by the wind. It belongs to a woman named Tammy, who introduces Marge to her friends, the Cheery Red Tomatoes. Tammy invites Marge to join the group on an outing. Marge is thrilled.

When Marge returns home, she tells the family that she’s now a junior member of the Cheery Red Tomatoes. Homer likens the group to a gang. Lisa hires a tutor to teach her how to speak Italian. The tutor turns out to be Milhouse, who has spent a lot of time in Italy with his grandmother, Nana Sophie. Milhouse tears up Lisa’s flash cards and tells her, “you don’t learn Italian, you live Italian.” Moments later they set off on a Vespa scooter, and make their way to Springfield’s Little Italy district. When they return home, Lisa gives Milhouse a kiss on the cheek. Milhouse is elated. Marge goes skydiving with the Cheery Red Tomatoes. Moe drops into the middle of their circle, having jumped out of a plane without a parachute. Later the group inducts Marge as a full-time member. Then they tell Marge their biggest secret: they plan on stealing one million dollars from Mr. Burns. Marge faints.

Marge tells the other women that it’s not right to steal, even from Mr. Burns. Tammy explains that Burns promised to donate a million dollars to Springfield’s Children’s Hospital, then reneged on the deal and unleashed his attack dogs on a group of people attending a charity event. Tammy says the group is plotting to steal twelve Faberge eggs, worth five million dollars each, from Burns’ vault. Eventually Marge changes her mind, and says she’ll help the women pull off the heist. Homer grows suspicious when Marge says she’s going bird watching. He does some snooping, and discovers some heist plans in a filing cabinet. Lisa discovers a girl sitting on Milhouse’s lap. Furious, Lisa snaps a branch from a tree and starts chasing Milhouse with it, much like Milhouse’s nana did back in Tuscany. At Burns’ mansion the Cheery Red Tomatoes put their plan in motion. Homer speeds to the scene in his car, attracting the attention of Wiggum and his men. When Homer arrives at the mansion, he tells the women he discovered their plot. Homer and the women attempt to sneak away with the eggs, but suddenly the sound of a gunshot fills the air. Mr. Burns steps forward, a musket in hand. He says that no jury would ever convict a group of women like the Cheery Red Tomatoes. He says he’ll let them go free if they return his eggs. One of the women hands Burns a bag. Later, as Homer and the women walk off the property, Marge reaches into her hair and pulls out a Faberge egg. A delighted Tammy takes the egg, but tells Marge that just to be safe, they can’t see each other again. Marge tells the Cheery Red Tomatoes that she’ll miss them. Later Homer takes Marge for a ride in a hot air balloon… which saves Moe from yet another suicidal plunge.
