Homer unwittingly drags the family into a cornfield maze after attempting to leave a boring Harvest festival that Marge brought them to. Everyone except Homer escapes. Santa's Little Helper rescues him, and becomes the town hero. The family decides to enroll him in the Police Dog Academy, where he is teamed with Lou after graduation. The daily grind of police work becomes too much for Santa's Little Helper, and he bites Bart. It is decided that he can no longer live with the family. Bart misses his dog, but finds a new pet in a python. In the end he is forced to choose between the two of them.
