Principal Skinner and Mrs. Krabappel arrange a field trip to Springfield Glacier. During the bus ride Bart repeatedly torments Lisa. When the group of students reaches the glacier, it turns out to be a six-foot chunk of ice floating in a pond. Lisa blames its size on global warming. A park ranger steps forward and tells Lisa that the government doesn’t believe global warming exists. Homer and Marge make their way to the Springfield Sprawl*Mart, where Grampa works as a greeter. Grampa accidentally falls into a shopping basket and collides with a pile of garden gnomes. Woozy from the accident, Grampa worries about the customers. Homer volunteers to fill in for Grampa, even donning his store vest… but his girth causes the vest to split open in the back. At Springfield Glacier Bart continues tormenting his sister by carving the words “Lisa smells” into a cave wall. Back at Sprawl*Mart Homer discovers he has a knack for Grampa’s greeter job. He comes to the attention of a store manager, who offers to make him a full-time employee. Homer accepts the offer. At the glacier Mrs. Krabappel flirts with Ranger Johnson. Jealous, and not to be outdone, Principal Skinner kisses a withered old body labeled “Ice Mummy.” Lisa warns a crowd about the shrinking glaciers. Bart slips a walkie-talkie into her backpack, and as Lisa continues addressing the crowd, Bart makes flatulence sounds, making it seem as if Lisa is passing wind. The crowd of children laughs. Furious, Lisa throws the walkie-talkie at Bart, who responds by hitting Lisa with a snowball. Lisa tumbles into a nearby lake. Soaking wet, she fumes at Bart on the bus ride home… and vows revenge. The next morning Chief Wiggum serves Bart a restraining order. Bart must stay at least twenty feet away from Lisa. When he ignores the restraining order, he is sent to jail.
Wiggum escorts Bart back home. Lisa explains that she learned about restraining orders through the Law Mobile. Wiggum tells Marge she can learn all about restraining orders by watching an instructional video, which is hosted by actor Gary Busey. When Bart wonders how he’ll know he’s twenty feet from his sister, Homer constructs a makeshift pole and hands it to Lisa. She uses it to poke Bart. Homer returns to his job at the Sprawl*Mart, where the store manager presents him with his first paycheck. Homer is shocked by the amount he gets paid, which is almost nothing. At school Principal Skinner informs Bart that because of the restraining order, he can’t stay inside the school. At first Bart is overjoyed, but then he finds out he’ll be attending class in Groundskeeper Willie’s shack. The Sprawl*Mart store manager uses a compliance chip implanted in Homer’s brain to keep Homer from thinking negative thoughts about the company. Back at the house Marge grows concerned when Lisa torments Bart with her poking stick. She turns to Judge Harm-Doom for help, but the plan backfires, and Harm-Doom increases the restraining order to two hundred feet. When Bart returns home, he’s forced to live in a small tent in the backyard.
The store manager at Sprawl*Mart locks the employees inside the store. Homer manages to remove his compliance chip, only to learn that his fellow employees removed their chips years earlier. They’ve come to accept that things cannot change, and they exact revenge by stealing everything they can lay their hands on. Inspired, Homer climbs onto a forklift loaded with plasma televisions. He drives the forklift through the glass doors and into the night. Marge convinces Lisa that Bart isn’t all bad, and helps her remember two kind things he’s done for her over the years. Lisa says that if she can think of a third act of kindness, she’ll forgive Bart for tormenting her. Soon after, Lisa spots a five-foot-high wicker replica (of Lisa) that Bart built in the backyard. Flattered, Lisa tells Bart she’s forgiven him. Moments later Lisa realizes the wicker figure wasn’t build in her honor; it was meant to be burned. Realizing how badly she’s been behaving, Lisa grabs a torch and sets the wicker Lisa on fire.
