In order to keep test scores at the elementary school from bottoming out, Principal Skinner initiates a new system that alerts parents when their child fares poorly in a subject. Lisa is taken aback when she receives notice that her gym grades have been far from exemplary. She applies for extra credit by joining different Pee Wee leagues—but she exhibits no talent at basketball or volleyball. Lisa becomes convinced that she will receive her first “F.” Homer, however, is only concerned with Bart’s performance at an upcoming hockey game. Bart’s team, The Mighty Pigs, wins the match, much to the disappointment of Apu, who coaches the opposing team, the Kwik-E-Mart Gougers. After the game, Bart taunts Lisa about her lack of athletic prowess, punctuating his words by throwing objects at her. Apu notices how well Lisa deflects the projectiles, and signs her up as his team’s new goalie.

Marge is hesitant about allowing Lisa to participate in so violent a sport, but nonetheless feels that girls should be allowed to play the same sports as boys. As the season progresses, Lisa becomes more and more confident, leading the Gougers to their best season ever. Homer lavishes attention on his daughter, making Bart feel jealous and neglected. Bart engages Lisa in hand-to-hand combat. Marge breaks up the fight, insisting her children are not in competition with each other. But shortly thereafter, Homer announces that Lisa’s team will face Bart’s team in an upcoming match.

The day of the big game arrives. The blood-thirsty audience gets caught up in the Simpson versus Simpson rivalry, until even the usually timid Marge aggressively encourages her daughter. The match comes down to a penalty shot that will determine which team emerges victorious—pitting Bart against his sister. Staring each other down, but realizing how many memories they share, the siblings put down their hockey sticks until time runs out, ending the game in a tie. The outraged crowd begins to riot, tearing down the stadium.
