Martin invites his classmates and teachers to his upcoming birthday party. During the celebration, Krabappel and Skinner strike up a conversation, and for the very first time, take an interest in one another. A batch of bacteria-laden oysters sends most of the children, save Bart (who abstained from eating the shellfish due to its lack of cream filling), to a nearby hospital. In an attempt to avoid Skinner’s mother, Krabappel and Skinner sneak away to Martin’s playhouse, where their passion intensifies. As a shocked Bart observes from the playhouse window, Skinner leans forward and gives Krabappel a gentle kiss.

The following Monday, Skinner and Krabappel overhear Bart preparing to tell his classmates about their romance. The boy is summoned to the Principal’s office, where Skinner and Krabappel propose a deal: in exchange for his silence, Bart’s permanent record will be inherited by another student. Bart accepts the arrangement. As the romance intensifies, however, the pair use Bart as a go-between to exchange love notes. But the final humiliation comes when Skinner forces Bart to stand before his class and say, “I love you, Edna Krabappel.” When Krabappel and Skinner sneak into a janitor’s closet, Bart assembles his fellow classmates in the hallway. Bart opens the closet door, revealing the couple locked in a passionate embrace.

Word circulates throughout Springfield that students caught Skinner and Krabappel having sex in a closet. Superintendent Chalmers gives Skinner an ultimatum: either end the relationship or face dismissal. When Skinner refuses to comply, Chalmers fires them both. Bart convinces the pair to barricade themselves on the school rooftop until their jobs are reinstated. When Chalmers refuses to meet their demands, Skinner addresses the townspeople directly. He insists he was not having sex with Edna in the closet, and to back up his claim, admits he is still a virgin. In light of the revelation, Chalmers reinstates Skinner and Krabappel. Later, the pair tell Bart they decided to break up. But when the boy leaves, the pair retire to the janitor’s closet and open a bottle of champagne.
