As Lisa tries to find a habitat for endangered bees, Mr. Burns builds a state-of-the-art sports arena which happens to look like a giant hive.
Burns and Smithers fly to a Billionaire’s Retreat, where a bunch of wealthy men engage in food fights and pranks. Meanwhile, at Springfield Elementary, Jimbo dares Bart to dump a beehive onto some kids sitting beneath a tree. Bart uses his slingshot and a rock to dislodge the beehive, causing it to fall onto the children. Lisa bravely dives onto the hive, a like soldier throwing herself onto a grenade. When nothing happens, Lisa peers into the hive… and sees that it’s empty. Groundskeeper Willie tells Lisa that bees across the globe are dying, but no one knows why. Back at the Billionair’'s Retreat, Burns and the others busy themselves playing poker. During the game Burns sweetens the pot by wagering Smithers. The Rich Texan wagers his professional basketball team, the Austin Celtics. Burns ends up winning the Rich Texan’s team. Lisa tells Homer about the dying bees. Concerned, Homer vows to help. Lisa and Home consult Professor Frink, who says the bees have contracted the measles. Frink says the only solution is to find uninfected bees, and start a healthy colony. An uninfected queen lands on Lisa’s face. Soon after, Lisa sports a beard of live bees.
Lisa tells Marge she wants the bees to stay on her face until a suitable habitat for them can be found. Marge agrees to let Lisa keep the bees, but only for one night. During a basketball game Mr. Burns takes an interest in Mark Cuban, the most flamboyant owner in the league. Like Burns, Cuban is a billionaire; but unlike the crusty Burns, Cuban enjoys having fun. Mr. Burns decides he’d like to be more like Cuban. Marge takes Lisa to a beautiful field that’s home to a greenhouse. Marge thinks the greenhouse is the perfect spot for Lisa’s bees. Mr. Burns’ antiquated attempts at attracting more basketball fans seem to have the opposite effect. Mr. Burns comes up with a new plan: build a state-of-the-art sports arena. To her horror, Lisa realizes that Burns intends to build the arena on the field where the bees now live.
Lisa takes her case to town hall, where the issue is put on a referendum. At first the townspeople appear to side with Lisa; but when they realize that doing so will cost them the state-of-the-art stadium, the townspeople side with Mr. Burns. Homer tells Moe he’d do just about anything to cheer up his daughter. Moe talks Homer into crossbreeding Lisa’s bees with Africanized honeybees. That way they’ll be strong enough to survive any environment. Homer brings Lisa and the Africanized bees to a field that’s home to a series of hives. When the bees are released they make a beeline for Burns’ new Springfield Excitement Arena, which resembles hives. The bees swarm into the arena, and begin attacking people. Eventually bees drive humans away, allowing them to make the arena their new home. A year later Burns recounts the tale to his fellow billionaires, who decide Burns isn’t a billionaire after all. They hurl him over a fence into an area that’s home to slovenly millionaires.
