At Republican headquarters, Mr. Burns and his fellow Republicans decide to gut the environment by scrapping every pollution law in existence. When acid rain sends townspeople scrambling indoors, the Simpsons decide that a game of Monopoly is in order. Eventually, Lisa catches Bart cheating. A fight breaks out and Homer begins strangling Bart. Concerned, Maggie dials police for help. Using riot taffy and a police robot, Wiggum and his men manage to quell the family melee.

The family’s fight makes newspaper headlines. Inside their jail cell, the family is visited by Gabriel, a social worker. Homer mistakes the man for the angel Gabriel, an error the social worker tries his utmost to correct. Gabriel sets about observing each family member individually. Convinced that Homer and his family are all trapped in negative behavior patterns, Gabriel develops a plan that will force them all to cooperate as a family. He hangs a backpack from a tree and tells them it has been filled with roast beef sandwiches, falafel and beer. But instead of using cooperation to retrieve the backpack, Homer begins ramming the family car into the tree. The tree topples and, as it slides down a hill, snags Gabriel in the process. It plummets down a V-shaped gorge and lodges twenty feet from the bottom. Gabriel hangs from the tree, trapped.

As wolves and cougars take an interest in Gabriel, the Simpsons quickly develop a rescue plan. They decide to lower Homer down to Gabriel, and using the family car, they will pull the pair to safety. Unfortunately, Marge injures her driving ankle, forcing Bart to climb behind the wheel. Slowly, the rope tied to the back of the car pulls Homer and Gabriel upward. Gabriel congratulates them on the accomplishment. But when the family returns home, they are greeted by Amber and Ginger (from “Viva Ned Flanders”). Amber announces that she’s looking for her husband, Homer Simpson. Homer grows panicked when he recognizes Amber as the woman he married in Las Vegas.

Marge reacts with outrage when she realizes Homer is also married to Amber. Homer promises to get an annulment. Meanwhile, Ginger approaches Ned Flanders, who decides to honor his marriage vows and take her in. But it isn’t long before Ginger grows tired of Ned’s honest living. In court, Judge Harm states that under Nevada law, bigamy is legal…and rules that both marriages will stand. When Homer returns home with the news, Marge promptly throws him out. He ends up living in Bart’s tree house with Amber. Marge eventually grows sympathetic towards Homer’s predicament and calls him into the house for a talk. Shortly thereafter, the Simpsons set a plan in motion. Homer takes Amber to Moe’s bar and gets her drunk. When Amber awakens in the tree house the next day, she discovers she’s sleeping next to Grampa…who informs her of their marriage. Amber is horrified. She and Ginger head back to Vegas. Homer looks heavenward and thanks for the help he received from upstairs. Gabriel then appears…in angel form.
