The Simpsons head for the beach, where Mayor Quimby helms a celebration of the annual return of stinging red jellyfish. As dusk, couples gather at a tented dance floor, where Homer and Marge, and other couples, dance to live music. Homer and Marge grow concerned when they realize that Ned has no one to dance with. Ned sadly exits and heads for the Leftorium store, where a woman customer inquires about a left- handed crimper. When the woman removes her hat, her beautiful, wavy hair comes down…and Ned is instantly smitten. The attraction is mutual, and the woman tells Ned she’s going to be in town for awhile and wonders if he’d be interested in having dinner with her. Ned accepts the offer. A short time later, Ned spots a nearby movie poster advertising an upcoming film. He then realizes the woman who came into the store is a famous actress named Sara Sloane.

Flanders tells Homer that he’s got a date with a movie star. That night, Flanders and Sara have dinner and stroll along the Squidport boardwalk, where Ned takes Sara’s hand. She kisses him. Later, Sara drops by Ned’s house, but their quiet is soon interrupted by reporters and photographers. Later, Ned interrupts a movie shoot when Sara begins removing her clothes for a love scene. He convinces Sara that nudity isn’t necessary, and she asks the director for a rewrite. The director concedes. Homer and Marge invite Ned and Sara to the house for dinner. Ranier Wolfcastle bursts through the door and begs Sara, his former girlfriend, to take him back. Ned hands Wolfcastle some cookies and shoos him out the door. Sara is so taken with Ned that she asks him to return to Hollywood with her. When Flanders expresses reluctance to do so, Sara announces that she’s moving to Springfield for good.

As time passes, Ned and Sara adjust to life together, and the countless requests for autographs. Marge invites Sara to join her at an upcoming book-of-the-month club meeting. But during the meeting, Sara realizes that none of the women actually read the book, which is a disappointment, since she invited along the author of the book, Helen Fielding. Later, Ned takes Sara to a Pops concert conducted by John Williams. Sara dresses in a revealing awards show-style gown, much to Ned’s dismay. That night, Ned wonders why Sara has taken an interest in him…and gets the feeling that Sara wants something he hasn’t been giving her. Sara tells Ned that she wants to have sex. Ned anxiously consults the Bible about the subject of premarital intercourse. Though he finds some verses supporting the idea, he finds a wealth of verses opposing it. Ned throws caution to the wind and sleep with Sara. The next morning, Ned tells Sara he wants to get married. But Sara tells him she’s not ready to be tied down. Flanders realizes the story won’t have a Hollywood ending. Later, Ned tells Homer and Marge that women throughout town have taken an interest in him now that he’s dated a famous movie
