Amy Barr, 13 from Bromley in Kent successfully campaigned to persuade her local authority to pay for a new liberator machine for cerebral palsy sufferer Tanya Backhouse, when hers broke beyond repair.
The communication machines - similar to the one used by Stephen Hawkins - are the only way that Tanya, and many others like her including stroke victims and people with other conditions such as cerebral palsy, can communicate.
