Acclaimed singer-songwriter Sharleen Spiteri rose to fame as the voice and face of the phenomenally successful band Texas.
So far she has gained 15 platinum discs in the UK alone, 13 top ten singles and over 20 million album sales worldwide. Recognised as one of the finest and most versatile vocalists and performers of her generation Sharleen has also won numerous awards globally, including a prestigious Ivor Novello for her songwriting.
Sharleen first came to prominence in the late 1980’s with the release of Texas’s classic debut single, I Don’t Want a Lover, which sold over two million copies worldwide and confirmed the band as a household name.
Texas went on to contribute to the British music scene for a further 20 years with seven more albums, including Mothers Heaven, Ricks Road, The Hush and Red Book. They scored 13 top ten hits with singles such as Halo and Black Eyed Boy and sold a massive 1.8 million copies of their 1996 album White on Blonde.
With chart-topping hits that span over three decades, Sharleen’s enduring presence in the charts and on the radio has continued with her recent solo albums: Melody in 2008 and The Movie Songbook in 2010.
As one of the most successful women in British music of the last 25 years, Sharleen will bring judging expertise from her ever evolving songwriting and musicianship, as well as her experience of performing to audiences from both small music clubs to massive stadiums across the world.
Sharleen says of her fellow Must Be The Music judges: “Regardless of our differing music genres, ultimately we all have the same goal and that’s to encourage unsigned and undiscovered talent to perform to the best of their abilities.”
