Helmand is one of 34 provinces in Afghanistan with the Helmand river flowing through the mostly desert terrain of this province. It’s population is 740,000 and Helmand is the world's largest opium-producing region.
Once part of the hippy trail in the 1960's, Afghanistan and Helmand are now infamously etched in minds the world over for the ongoing war between the Taliban and the Coalition forces.
However, it is also a land of great physical beauty and intrigue: the terrain, the deserts and the contrast of green belts that run alongside the river.
Here we take a look at some of the landscape, views from the base camp and village.
