- Prepare an Environment Policy (the environmental standards ISO14001 and BS8555 can help) and obtain sign off from senior management.
- Measure your organisations impacts on the environment (CO2 emissions, water, waste) and identify targets and actions to reduce impacts.
- Identify an environmental champion in your organisation who has responsibility for implementing the action plan.
- Review performance against targets.
- Ask for suppliers’ Environment Policy.
- Ask for information on suppliers’ ethical credentials.
- Work with suppliers to reduce environmental impacts.
- Include environmental and sustainability considerations in project planning – look at potential issues, and opportunities from the outset.
