I’ve never been happier to be proved wrong: ‘the package’ wasn’t some new fangled tech… it was DESMOND! In one of the greatest episodes ever, we can’t stop wondering, “Oh brother, where art thou?”
…or more specifically, “where didst thou go?!” Exactly what happened to Desmond during that magnetising room? Where did his consciousness go to this time?
I don’t know about you – fair Lost fan, TLI viewer, and patient PT Blog reader – but I absolutely love these flash-sideways. I’ve heard about frustrated fans wondering what’s going on, but, isn’t that the greatest thing about this show? It’s a mystery folks, always has been, and if the final season had been 17 episodes of answer-after-answer, wouldn’t that just be a big list of… well, answers? But more importantly, where would the plot/mystery be?
The fact that this final season has thrown us one of the most intriguing and challenging mysteries of the entire saga – the sideways – is something I couldn’t be happier about. If I had a deerstalker hat, it would be worn. If I had a pipe, I would smoke it (badly, coughing everywhere as I don’t smoke). If I heard of a supernatural hound near the vicinity of a Baskerville, I would… well, I’d probably leg it. But via my clumsy metaphor, I think you catch my drift: mysteries? Yes please – this is Lost!
And I know I’m far from being on my own when I say how much I love Desmond. Geeky Tom adores him. The entire TLI production team worship the storylines he dwells in. And Iain has decided to grow his hair and more of a beard and become a living, breathing, radio-presenting homage to him. Brother, you’d better follow through with your promise to do this in the summer… me and GT will be checking up on the progress of your flowing locks. That couldn’t have sounded more wrong could it…
Just a matter of weeks to go and it will all be over, which got me thinking – what will Lost fans do immediately after it finishes? Anyone fancy a re-watch of the entire series once the sixth season is out on DVD? I reckon that would rule. Get in touch with TLI via the usual methods and tell us how you’ll be celebrating the finale – I just hope we have a nice big cake. Mmm… Sky1 icing…
Anyways, no rest for the Terry this week: I’ve got an electromagnetic shed-load of writing and research to do, a score to lock down, and a day to look forward to where I’ll be voicing a terrifying lycanthropic beast. Life is very good, brother.
