Lost Initiative and Lost Magazine guru Paul Terry presents his musings on Love 'n' Lost with another edition of his weekly blog for this week's episode - "The Package"
Solicitor? Not quite. In trouble with the law? Nope. Instead, my garb this week was all in aid of the big 'L' word ladies and gentlemen. No, I'm not referring to that raunchy TV series, I speak of a wonderful DHARMA wedding...
This week's heart-stopping episode, The Package, was full of mind-blowing scenes and revelations, but, at its core, we got to feel the love between Jin and Sun. The couple seems to having a pretty rough time of it, in the flash-sideways especially, so it was a good job that I turned up for this week's show bursting with hippy-fuelled joy. And no, it wasn't because I'd just won a case for Iain that bagged him a Miles-style $1.6million, it was because, I had literally just legged it from around the corner of where we shoot TLI, where I had been at the wedding of the year...
Now, normally, good friends of yours would be pretty miffed if you ducked out of their special day to go and record a TV show for a couple of hours, but not only was fate on my side, the bride and groom were massive Lost fans. Earlier on the day of recording TLI, at 3pm, my wonderful chum, all-round comics editor genius (and also Lost Magazine contributing writer) Ned Hartley tied the knot with his very own long-term lovely DHARMA lady, Carly Roberts. Followers of the official magazine will recall Ned's ace features over the past five years – especially Ned and Carly's amazing report straight from the heart of Hawaii. They created a detailed guide so that Lost fans that visited 'the island' would know exactly where to go to relive their favourite Lost moments. It was such an amazing article, and still remains one of my favourite pieces. Cheers again, the now Mr and Mrs Hartley – you rule!
It was a pretty insane day to say the least. After the ceremony and amazing wedding breakfast, I literally arrived at the TLI studios at 6.30pm for the record, and then later, jumped in a cab and was back at the party by 8pm. Super-swift and 'one-take-wonders' me, GT and Iain are. Well, can be. However, I must point out a very specific detail that was stuck to my suit jacket... When I said I was at the wedding of two massive Lost fans, I wasn't kidding: for the dinner, I was sat on the DHARMA table (see pic). Other genre references told other guests where to sit (Xavier's Academy, Gotham City, etc) – it truly was an awesome geek-fest. Boy, was Geeky Tom proud... So, please share with me on this week's Blog, raise whatever cup of tea/coffee you have to hand, and toast my lovely DHARMA chums, Ned and Carly. Plus, feel for them, as they haven't seen The Package because of their honeymoon. Although I'm sure the island will be the last thing on their minds...
Amazing wedding. Cab-race to watch that amazing Lost episode. Zoom back to an amazing wedding disco that ended with Rage Against The Machine. Kick-ass. And in celebration of the big day, I dedicated my Theory Battle spotlight to the show's couple who we are all rooting for: Jin & Sun. Hope you enjoy it, and try to guess whether you think Iain and Tom will like it...
