Sky1 HD caught up with Rebecca Mader, whose character Charlotte Lewis died in season 5. The candid Brit talks about happy endings and fairy kisses.

Lost Rebecca MaderWhat attracted you to Lost?
It's a phenomenon. I'd seen the pilot, but I stopped watching after missing a couple of episodes. Then I got the audition for Charlotte and was like, "Oh b*****ks! I knew I should have watched it!" I felt so unprepared, but just blagged my way through and clearly did alright.

What are the challenges and rewards of working on the world's most talked about TV show?

There weren't any challenges; it was like being handed a hit on a plate. I mean, it was really difficult working in Hawaii - I've got a lot of freckles, or fairy kisses as my mum calls them, basically sun damage, but whatever!

Your character, Charlotte Lewis, died in season five - care to elaborate on how you'll be making your return?
No [laughs].

Do you have any inkling on how the show's going to end? Care to hazard a guess?
I do know what I want - a happy ending. I want everyone's suffering to come to an end. They've had the crap beaten out of them, so how they're still walking is beyond me. The time-travelling killed me - travel's a bitch! You never know what the writers are going to come up with next, because they're always pulling rabbits out of a hat.

Who did you get on best with in the cast?
I got on with everyone, but Ken Leung, who plays Miles, is a good guy, and we used to hang out a lot with his equally fun girlfriend.

If you could swap roles with anyone on the show, who would it be and why?

Locke. He's my absolute favourite character, I love him. I don't know if I could pull it off, plus the shaved head wouldn't be a good look for me. There's Ben as well. Michael Emerson's so different in real life, such a sweet, wonderful person.

Lost has always had an otherworldly edge - do you believe in the supernatural?
Yeah, I don't believe in smoke monsters or polar bears in the jungle though. When I was 18, I saw UFOs in Cambridge. No one believes me, but my ex-boyfriend can back me up. Although I haven't seen any ghosts, it's not an impossibility; a person's energy might just linger around a bit.

When was the last time you were Lost?
That's a good one. I don't really get lost, because I've got a ridiculously amazing sense of direction.

If you were marooned on an island and could take three essential items with you, what would they be?
I'd take my iPod, so I'd have my entire iTunes library. Sunscreen would be a must for obvious reasons - you can only have so many freckles before they start joining together. And my dog.

Lost Rebecca MaderLost is a philosophical series - many of the character names are inspired by philosophers. What's your philosophy on life?
Be happy. If you sort out your mood during the day, better things will happen to you, you attract things. Well, that's how I lead my life.

What's next for you? What acting ambitions do you have?

Comedy's next on my to-do list. I've just wrapped a movie called Mother's Little Helpers and it's really funny, and that should be coming out within the year. I'm a silly, stupid kind of person, but I always play serious people. When you do a comedy, you're working, laughing and getting paid for it. What's better than that?

There appears to be an appetite for English actors and actresses in America right now. Why do you think this is?
A lot of Brits and Aussies are doing well. They're all talented and can do great American accents. If you can't do one, good luck.

I did a bit of Googling and it mentioned you modelled in New York for a while. How difficult was the transition from modelling to acting? Were there any preconceptions?
Totally. I tried to get into acting in London, but if you haven't gone to drama school then you can't really get a meeting with an agent. I couldn't afford to go to university, and stumbled into modelling, which I didn't enjoy at all. So, I went to New York and tried to get an agent - they're a lot less snobby about the whole thing. And it worked. I got into TV commercials, and it went from there.

What's the worst question you've ever been asked in an interview?
When I'm interviewed about Lost, they ask me what I can tell them. I say, "Not a lot". But then the whole interview would be, what can you tell us?!
