Surf's up dude!...or is it?
Justin Lee Collins makes a splash as he takes on the Atlantic ocean...on a surfboard!
Not only will the novice brave the ten metre waves, his mission is to compete against the UK's top surfer, Russell Winter famous in the Pro Surf Tour Mens Open.
With only 10 days of prep, JLC has to play serious catch up as he faces losing, drowning or worse...plain humiliation.
The Collins family excitedly pile into a car and head to the Cornish coast. As a teenager, JLC admired the ripped surfer dudes with their sun-bleached hair and 'totally-chilled' nature but confesses he's a dud swimmer and more of a West Country pasty man at heart.
However, he's looking forward to experiencing Mother Earth, man. But Big Mother doesn't seem to like him much. He's tumbled faster than a high-speed washing machine, engulfed and spat out in face-planting style.
Surf guru and coach, Chris Thompson, gives him no respite and hands Justin an even longer board. Lugging all 9 feet and 4 inches of it down to the sea, JLC tries yet again. He achieves 'two whole seconds of surfing nirvana' as he balances precariously before plummeting into the glassy depths.
Rising triumphant, JLC may have got past the first hurdle, but how will he fare in the competition? After hanging out with pro surfers round a camp fire the previous night, his sense of trepidation grows as the chequered conversation switches from bravado to terror stories.
With a crowded beach watching, Justin the surfer has to prove he can actually do it.
