Contributor: Allison Gallagher (52)Allison Gallagher was just 12½ when she last saw her Missing Mum. It was May, 1969, and Allison was home from school ill. She vividly remembers seeing her Mum put her scarf on her head, pick up her shopping bag, and then walk out the door without saying a word.
It has taken Allison some time to come to terms with her mother’s disappearance. She often told people her mother was dead, so she didn’t have to tell the heart breaking truth that her mum had walked out and left her. Although Jean never contacted Allison, and there have been no sightings since she walked out in 1969, Allison would still welcome her Mum back into the family.
Allison (52) has no idea why her mother would have walked out leaving five children in the care of their grandmother. Allison knows her estranged younger brother, Billy, is also looking for his mother, as she saw his advert in the local paper appealing for information. There are a number of photos of Jean – it’s these, and fond memories, Allison cherishes.
