Style: Contemporary Freestyle

Members: Hippy-Joe, 14

Hometown: West Midlands

Expressive freestyle dancer Hippy-Joe has only been dancing for four years, but has taken home over 300 trophies, and dreams of gaining a scholarship to dance college.

Hippy-Joe says that dance is everything to her, and that being on Got To Dance is an “unbelievable” opportunity. She hopes to tell a story and move people with her dancing.

Hippy-Joe and her mum spend hours designing her costumes, getting inspiration from her style icons Twiggy, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. She won’t let herself think about winning the competition because it would be in her “wildest dreams”.

Question and Answer:

Q: Why have you entered Got To Dance?

A: It is my one and only chance of living my dream, which is to perform in front of hundreds of people and let them see what I really want them to see.

Q: When was the last time you cried?

A: When Davina came to my school to tell me I was through to the semi-finals. She wiped my eyes with a cameraman’s lens wipe!

Q: Describe your act in three words?

A: Expressive, Flexible, Dramatic.

What the Judges said at the audition:

ADAM: Gold

You breathe with strength and greatness, you have this wonderful presence and this joy you project: it’s one if the best.

KIMBERLY: Gold

I love that you’ve made a statement with the song choice; you may not be perfect but you are pretty darn close.

ASHLEY: Gold

We see a lot of this style, but I think you are one of the best we have seen this series.
