Davina McCall is one of Britain’s most loved television presenters, with a career spanning 18 years. Her first break came in 1992 when she secured her own show on MTV, before moving on to host the ITV game show God’s Gift in 1995 and Channel 4’s dating game show, Streetmate, in 1998. That same year, Davina was catapulted to household name status when she presented the prime-time show Don’t Try This At Home for ITV1.
Ground-breaking reality show
Then, in 2000 Davina was chosen to present the ground-breaking reality show Big Brother for Channel 4. Ten years later, the series that has also had six celebrity versions, reaches its 11th and final series in summer 2010. January 2010 also sees the final incarnation of Celebrity Big Brother.
Brit Award Host
In 2001, Davina presented the Brit Awards as well as Comic Relief on BBC1, which she continues to host. The following year she fronted Popstars: The Rivals and The Vault, before presenting Oblivious and Reborn in the USA in 2003, all for ITV1. She also hosted the Brit Awards for a second time in 2003.
BAFTA presenter
2004 saw Davina chosen to present the prestigious BAFTA television awards, a role she went on to repeat in 2006. Following 2004’s Love on a Saturday Night for ITV1, she hosted her own BBC One prime-time chat show, Davina, in early 2006. Soon after, Davina became the main presenter on Sport Relief on BBC One, which she continues to host. In 2007, Davina presented the Channel 4 documentary Let’s Talk Sex.
Throughout her career, Davina has also turned her hand to acting, appearing in the sitcom Sam’s Game for ITV1 in 2001, and in Leigh Francis’ comedy sketch shows Bo Selecta and A Bear’s Tail on Channel 4. Davina also provided the voice of an android version of herself for the Doctor Who episode “Bad Wolf” on BBC One in 2005, and played herself as a bloodthirsty zombie in Dead Set for Channel 4 in 2008.
Davina became the face of Garnier in 2007, and has produced several exercise DVDs alongside her personal trainers, Mark and Jackie Wren, which have sold over one million copies to date.
In January 2010 Davina makes her Sky1 HD debut, hosting Got To Dance.
