Andrew Sachs began acting at the age of 14. He is most famous for his role as Manuel, the calamitous Spanish waiter in the sitcom Fawlty Towers, for which he received a BAFTA nomination in 1980.
Sachs is frequently heard as a narrator of TV and radio documentaries, as well as numerous audio books. From 1984 to 1986, he starred as Father Brown in a BBC Radio series based on the stories of GK Chesterton. He has also narrated numerous children’s animations, including William’s Wish Wellingtons, The Gingerbread Man and The Forgotten Toys.
In 2009, Sachs returned to TV screens, playing Norris’s brother, Ramsay, in Coronation Street for a three-month period.
