Duel has a time limit of 30 seconds.  One Gladiator and one contender stand on opposite podiums, armed with pugil sticks. On the whistle both competitors must try and hit each other from the podium into the water below.  No pushing, shoving, kicking or use of hands is allowed, and neither Contender nor Gladiator may leave the platform to cross over to the opponent's platform

Scoring:

The Contender gets 10 points if he or she knocks the Gladiator into the water.  If the Contender manages to stay on the podium for the full 30 seconds, the event is ruled a draw and the Contender is awarded 5 points.

Trivia:

*  On American Gladiators, Duel is known as "Joust."
*  "Pugil Stick" comes from the Latin pugnus, which means fist.
