As Dubaku launches another terror attack, Janis locates the intended target; Jack, Walker, and the rest of the team close in on the CIP module; and the President learns that her husband is missing.
At the FBI Janis has identified a signature code-fragment left by the CIP module incursion. Knowing another attack is underway, but not knowing where, she uses the code to try to pinpoint which sector of the infrastructure is in danger. At the White House, Ethan tries in vain to contact Agent Gedge. He is lying dead in Samantha Roth’s condo next to an unconscious Henry Taylor. In Bill’s van Chloe and the team have tracked Matobo and his wife to the Ritter Building. As they pull up, Chloe gains access to the building’s security systems. Jack asks Walker for her help. In the Starkwood HQ Control Room inside the Ritter Building, the Matobos are brought before Dubaku. The Colonel tells the Prime Minister that he will be taken back to Sangala, where he will be forced to name his political allies… all of whom General Juma considers traitors. The Matobos are taken to a holding room. Outside Jack, Tony, and Bill climb up to the roof of the Ritter Building; Walker goes in through the front door, flashing her FBI credentials to gain access. She opens a rooftop door for the others. With Chloe’s help, Jack and Walker enter an airshaft, and crawl towards the Starkwood Control Room. Janis has figured out the point of the next CIP intrusion: the Boyd Chemical plant. She calls the plant manager, John Brunner, who reports that they are having trouble resetting their safety valves. Janis confirms that the plant is under terrorist attack.
At the White House, Kanin and Woods tell President Taylor what Janis has discovered. With only fifteen minutes until the situation turns deadly, they lay out the potential, devastating results. From the airshaft Jack runs a cable-snake camera through the vents until he locates Dubaku. In the FBI bullpen Janis uses the Boyd plant’s schematics to talk Brunner through a manual valve override. Despite wearing a gas mask, Brunner begins to show signs of chemical poisoning. At Starkwood Nichols and Dubaku learn that Jack and Tony are in the building. Dubaku orders the CIP disengaged, and he flees. Tony and Bill enter through Starkwood’s front door with guns blazing as Jack and Walker drop in from the airshaft. Several firefights ensue, and Dubaku’s men are quickly killed. Walker shoots Nichols, and frees the Matobos while Tony recovers the destroyed CIP module.
At the FBI, Sean and Janis report that the firewall intrusion has ceased. She tells Brunner the good news, but he is already critically ill. At the Ritter Building, Jack and the team continue to search for Dubaku, who has escaped by blending in with other evacuating office workers. With police rapidly approaching, Jack and the others leave. At the FBI Janis feels bad about Brunner’s death; but Sean reminds her that they still need to trace the firewall intrusion, and locate the CIP module.
At the White House everyone is relieved that the disaster has been averted, but no one is comfortable with the lack of an explanation as to what happened. Kanin calls the Secret Service, and reports that he can’t locate either Agent Gedge or the First Gentleman. He provides the pair’s last known location: Samantha Roth’s condo. President Taylor learns that her husband is missing. In his car outside Samantha’s condo, Agent Vossler hears the APB, and knows agents will be converging on his
location. He goes inside. In the condo Henry regains consciousness. He tries to leave, but Vossler grabs him. Vossler calls Dubaku, and is told to bring the First Gentleman to him. In an abandoned building, Jack and the team pause to take cover and rethink their situation. They know trying to find Dubaku in a city of millions is an impossible task without the help of a larger agency; but they still have a security leak, and as a result they don’t know who can and can’t be trusted. Prime Minister Matobo says he trusts President Taylor. Jack agrees that if they can circumvent her circle and get straight to her,
she may be able to help their cause. Matobo calls the White House, and speaks to President Taylor. He explains that he and his wife have been rescued, and that the CIP module has been destroyed. He says the people who rescued him need to speak privately with her. She agrees to the meeting, and tells Kanin to expedite their clandestine arrival at the White House. Tony refuses to accompany them: he’s still wanted for the crimes he committed while working for Emerson. Jack says Tony needs to turn himself in. He says he will… after they get Dubaku. Elsewhere, Dubaku arrives at his apartment. He is visited by a woman named Marika, who is dressed in a waitress uniform. She calls him Samuel, and asks if he is still coming over to her house for dinner. They make small talk which implies they are dating. After she leaves, Dubaku calls Vossler, and directs the agent where to take the bound-and-gagged First Gentleman.
